I noticed today that I was ranked kind of high for the keyphrase SEO blog on Google.com. Not in the top 10 but in place number 13 which is not that bad either considering that I have not been adding links here at all lately.

This is so sweet, I was just wondering what keyword I was going to optimize this blog for… But now I found the answer by searching Google. Actually I got a mail from a guy named Jim Burnett where he gave me a link to his new Intelligent Link Replication Tool. I have to check that one! The info I really needed could not be found on the site I was transfered to when clicking the link.

I am also wondering right now why webmasters are accepting the Dmoz staff´s behavior, you see Dmoz or the web directory a.k.a the Open Directory Project is abusing the Internet so badly becasue beeing listed in DMOZ gives you a great headstart when it comes to SEO. If everyone could get a listing at the ODP it would not be a problem but right now there is an very uneven quality among the DMOZ editors and some editors only accepts sites that they are familiar to etc…

I am sure that the Open Directory Project will die by itself, no one is interested in catalogue like that anymore. Maybe it worked in the 90´s but not anymore I believe.

I have found some new SEO tools and this time it was fun viewing some of them.
I got a e-mail from someone saying that he had a great collection and I have to agree, this site has most the SEO tools I use listed.

Another tool I recently found and which I have used a lot is this tool: search and simulate like if you would search from a different country. so what it does is very simple. It shows you the search results from differernt countries since Google might adjust SERP positions slightly when you are searching from two different continents for example.

Now you have enough tools to be satisfied until christmas, but I´ll be back if I would find something spectacular.

This is small guide you would need to read if you are thinking about participtating in an SEO contest.

Lately there has been many search engine optimization contests going on in every corner of the
internet, to name a few you might recognize we have V7ndotcom Elursrebmem, Carcasherdotcom SEOcontest and ambatchdotcom seocontest etc etc.
As you know the purpose of all these contests is to rank as high as possible in specific search engines
such as Google, Yahoo and MSN which are also the three most popular ones.

Before you get started

Make sure your contest entry has the keyword or the keywords in the URL:
For example if you want to join the Carcasherdotcom Seocontest your URL should look something like this:

Domain: http://www.carcasherdotcomseocontest.cc/
Subpage: http://www.marcuswestberg.com/carcasherdotcom-seocontest/
Subdomain: http://carcasherdotcomseocontest.yoursite.com

In case you are wondering if you need to include a hyphen or not the answer is that it doesn´t
really matter, normally at the start of SEO contest all good domain are gone fast like the .com
.net etc… so take whatever you can get.
You dont need to register an entire domain just to win an seo contest, a subpage is just fine
and has already got the benfit of beeing located at your regular domain that already has some
Google trustrank so dont worry about that. The third option is the subdomain which should be avoided
unless you already have an old subdomain with the specific keyword in it.

Consider this

Make sure you join the contest at the time the keywords are beeing anounced so that your contest site
gets indexed as fast as possible. The age factor of a site does matter when it comes to ranking high.

Structure your contest site/page

You need to make sure that the contest keyword is repeated over and over again on your site and
it needs to be written in these places:

TITLE: The most important factor, this tells the visitor what your site is about
HEADER TAGS: Make sure you have the keyword in at least one of your header tags.
(dont over do it by spamming H1 - H6 with the exact same keyword phrase.)
IN THE CONTENT: Repeat the keyword every now and then in the text.
META DESC: keyword here
META KEYWORDS: keyword here

Final step and also the hardest part

Now you are ready to rank! But berfore you can do that you need inbound links to your site.
It is very important that you get links that are related to your keywords, rather get one related link
then 5 unrelated links. You need to show the search engines that your site´s URL is repeated everywhere
there is text written about your desired keyword.

Use your imagination

It is hard getting related links at a high rate unless you have a smart idea, some kind of linkbait
that will make webmasters link to your site just because they like it and not because they have to.

Final words

If I ever would win an SEO contest then I am going to write a more extensive article with some more things explained in detail but right now you have to settle with this

A new seo contest!

I was reading my friend Estebans blog and I noticed he was writing a post about a seo contest called precharge projectnet.

Apperently many good seos will enter this contest (well let´s wait a minute to see) and the prize pot is $1000….

When I make the search on google.com I only get 420 results (2006-09-04) but I guess that in a few days we will see plenty of results…
I´m not going to participate in this contest because I have already got a hard time battling with my canadian friend Gary to rank high for carcasherdotcom seocontest in google.com so I´ll lay low.
Speaking of the carcasherdotcom seocontest I just started creating a blog on carcasherdotcomseocontest.ws click the link to see the site for yourself:

However I might get involved somehow in this contest since Esteban is in it and he has already made a site dedicated just for that contest: Precharge Projectnet

This contests main purpose is to as they say it: Save the internet by telling surfers how they can help out and stop all the madness that goes on out there on the Internet.
I´m not sure exactly how they are going to do this…. I guess I have to study that more…
So far I dont know all details but I guess they are doing a good thing, we will see in a while.
